SC, father NC, mother SC Anna, wife, Aprl 1856, 44, married 52 years, mother of 16, just 8 living, b. Georgia This census is SO confusing! There is no way a 44 yr old woman could be married 52 years, yet the census clearly states that. Could she be yet another wife, the 3rd one, and the census taker recorded the 52 in error? Stephen Gavin’s pension application records the “B” for his middle initial. Other family genealogies record that to be “Blocker”. He was in the Co. E, 6th Florida Regiment and was wounded, resulting in disability. He received a gunshot wound in the left lung through the body and near the spine, resulting in loss of muscle and partial paralysis to his shoulder and left arm. He first filed for pension 1887. His “widow” filed for his pension benefits Aug., 1909. By 1898 he tesitified that he had lived in Holmes Co., Florida for 41 years, making his arrival there about 1857, according to papers found in his pension application.
