In July, 1860, John A. Roberts received patents to lands in Section 26, Township 4, Range 27, in Santa Rosa Co., FL on which he would have settled several years before. In April of that same year, George Walther received patents to lands in Section 17, Township 4, Range 26, which was less than two miles north of the Roberts. George stated on homestead papers that he had settled that land about 1853. The Roberts family appears in the 1860 Santa Rosa Co., FL census, and John was a laborer. They were about 5 households from George and Nancy Walther.
