  1885 census found him living with James Kelly, a probable cousin, in Walton Co., Florida, Yellow River Pct. Age 25, called Jerry, could read and write. My great-grandparents, his brother, John Shorter and Lucy Ann also lived in the same house.
  1900 census was the source for his family names and dates. This would be the best source for age, and he reported here that he was 37, and was born in Oct., 1862. The census was taken in June, so he hadn't had that year's BD yet. He was living in Walton Co., Florida, Laurel Hill, Pct. 18.
