  Apr. 12, 1937 - Mar. 31, 2016 Sammy Dan McArthur, 78, of Moss Point, MS, passed away March 31, 2016 fully knowing he was going to his heavenly home. He was one of eleven children born to Clarence and Mabel McArthur, on the outskirts of Philadelphia, MS. He was a devoted husband to Sandra for 58 years and a loving father to three daughters. He was a proud grandfather to nine grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and numerous honorary grandchildren who called him "Papaw". He worked hard at the Moss Point Paper Mill, never missing a day of work in his forty-one year career. Throughout his life, he was a sports enthusiast. He loved to play basketball in his younger days. He coached Moss Point Dixie Youth boy's baseball for many years and later coached Pascagoula girls softball. He was ordained as a Deacon at the age of 19 and of all his accomplishments, his most fulfilling moments were when he could lead someone to Christ. He served at Pineview Baptist Church for many decades, and then at Ridglea Heights Baptist church for many years. He was led to Four Mile Creek, his current church home, which has embraced and loved him and the family during his time of illness. In addition to his parents and siblings, Sammy was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Ashley Taylor. He leaves precious memories to his wife of 58 years, Sandra McArthur; daughters, Jeanne (Adam) Tilley, Tammy (Dwight) Baker, and Kim (William) Henry; grandchildren, Jeremy Russell, Bradley Russell, Ally (Jason) Sanders, Zach Taylor, Tanner Henry, Casey Baker, Meagen (Jaymie) Smith, and Jessica Baker; great-grandchildren, Julia, Jenna, and Josephine Russell, Aaron Russell, Jared and Caden Hoffield, Amelia Kate and Ty Smith; brother, Gerald (Kay) McArthur; sister, Patsy (Glen) Reeves; along with numerous nieces, nephews, other family and friends. The visitation will be held on Sunday, April 3, 2016 from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. at Heritage Funeral Home in Escatawpa, MS. The funeral service will follow in the funeral home chapel beginning at 3:00 p.m. with Rev. David Thomas officiating. Interment will be held at Serene Memorial Gardens.
