Source: Jerry Fowler's records John Fowler must have been in Alabama by 1847 or 1848, because his second child was shown to be born in Alabama. By July, 1849, John and Elizabeth's names were included on the membership roll of Providence Baptist Church. On Nov. 23, 1850, Thornton requested letters of dismissal for himself, his wife, and his daughters, Jane and Nancy, and Kader Powell and wife, suggesting a move away from that area. 1850 census of Dale Co., AL shows John and his family. Could Thornton and Nancy be close by? David and John's sister, Elizabeth, (Kelly) lived in Coffee Co., but almost on the Dale Co. line. April 25, 1852, Providence Church records: John Fowler, David Kelly and Joel Kelly acknowledged they had been missing conference days, and promised to do better. The church accepted their apology. (Indicating his presence in the area). He and Elizabeth eventually received letters of dismission from the church, but no date was provided. In 1852, John W. Fowler bought 100 acres of land from William Fowler back in Georgia, for which he paid $100. The land was 1/2 of Parcel 166 in District 15.
John and his family were found in the 1860 Dougherty Co., Ga. census, HH# 297. He was a farmer and his property valued at $3060 and $1940. At HH# 313 (16 households away) was HM or William Fowler, age 23, planter, property 1200 and 785, born in Dooly, and a Nancy, age 60, born in NC. One of the sons of John W. was definitely called Dock or Doc. I think it was William H. but am not sure. Joy's e-mail refers to a James or William Leon as Dock.
