a. Note:   N2258 Francis was living at home with his parents when the census was taken in 1860, but by July he had bought his own property nearby. In May of 1864 he sold his property to his father. Bk A1, p. 136, Santa Rosa Co., FL deeds. There is a record that Frances M. Roberts enlisted in the Eleventh Fl. Inf., Co K, 3/2/1863 at Vernon and was dropped 12/31/1863. His last card indicated that he was on detached service 12/15/1863. He enlisted in the First Florida (US) Cavalry, Co. D on January 5, 1864 at Barrancas. He appeared as a wagoner in early 1864 and died of pulmonary consumption Oct., 15, 1864 at Barrancas. He was 5’3”, black eyes, dark hair and skin. Occupation: farmer. (Biographicl Rosters of Florida’s Confederate and Union Soldiers 1861 - 1865, by Hartman) V. II&IV The birthdate he gave and place don’t match my records perfectly. He said he was born in 1841 in Troup Co., GA. The 1860 census showed him to be 21. However, the family was notorious at giving out different ages for the same person.
