Mary Ann followed naming patterns rigidly. She named a daughter after each of her sisters: Nancy, Sarah, Cornelia Ann and Dicey Elizabeth, and one after herself. The other daughter was named for Josiah’s sister, Chacey. Her first son was named for his father - J. L. The second sons was obviously named for his two grandfathers - William Barlow and Robert Hart.
Mary Ann was still alive when her husband filed for the homestead in 1889, but he was living alone with their son, Jay, in 1900.
