Note: N218 Much of John's information came from this descendant: Joan Wilsey, P.O. Box 412, Loxley, AL Taken from 1850 Conecuh Co., AL census, which shows him 3rd in birth order, and 15 years old. "Census or Enumeration of Confederate Soldiers Residing in Alabama,1907" reports his birthdate and place as Jan. 1830, near Pensacola, Florida, based on personal interviews of the veteran (and year could be wrong). 1870 Escambia Co., AL census, HH#82, laborer 1900 Escambia Co., AL census shows second marriage. John, Sr. and Susan were living next household to his son, Isaac. Birthdate for John, Sr. was Jan. 1846. Does not match with stated age - 64, which would have been about 1835.This census reports John, Sr. and Susan had been married 5 years. She had given birth to 5 children (previous to this marriage), with just 4 living. 1920 Escambia Co., AL census, 86, wd., living with son John T., 35 and Bamma, 26. Family Group Record downloaded from Lygia Cutts shows him born in, 1835. This date is more consistant with with 1920 census, and stated age in 1900. Was detailed to drive beef cattle. Capt Minece (?) was in charge of the forage wagons at the close of the war and told me and about 47 more that the war was over and we could all go home. Remarks con't: We were about a few miles northeast of Selma, Alabama and our captain said we did not need a parole so I came home--walked all the way.
