a. Note:   N107 He was a Surveyor of Highways on 16 August 1816.
  He was among the first settlers of Middletown n 1774. He was on the list of Freemen in 1783.
  It is told that while he was driving cattle toward his home, he was attacked by a pack of fourteen wolves but drove them off with only a club.
  He was a member of the Congregational Church and because of his sobriety was known as Deacon Ben, although he never held that office.,
