Note: N466 My mother, Marguerite (Ayo) Bonnet, was an accomplished artist in watercolors, oil paints, and pastels, as well as working in porcelain and ceramic. She was trained as an artist early in life and pursued that both as a vocation and as a hobby throughout her life.
She worked as a “Rosie the Riveter,” helping to assemble airplanes, to aid the war effort during World War II when she and my father were stationed in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. She followed my dad around to his various assignments, and when he retired in 1968, they returned to Lafayette, Louisiana, where she spent the rest of her life.
She loved art, music (especially opera), dogs, gardening, and reading historical fiction. She was a versatile and talented woman who enriched the lives of all who knew her.
She died in February of 2005 after a mercifully short battle with brain cancer. She will be missed.
