  --- Emilie and her sister Elisa came over to the US after John sent money for her to come over. Emilie came over in 1895 when she was about 19 years old. John Dietrich, her husband had come over to the U.S. when he was about 8 years old, so if they knew each other in Germany, it was when they were children. Was the marriage "arranged" ?
  Emily says that Emilie & Elisa's family was from Dusseldorf, Germany. Emilie had several other sisters back in Dusseldorf that she continued to write to until she died. Gram says she wrote a lot during WWII, and can remember her writing letters in German. Her sisters name were:Catherine, Christina, Lena ? Emily also once said she had "sisters in Wiesbaden, Lina & Katherine"
  Gram says that Emilie's parents (Hein and Catherine) died in Germany on poor farm. Gramps says that they (Gram and her sister Elisa Dietrich Briesemeister) sent money back home for a while, but then Herman Briesemeister saw pictures of the family back home and they were "in fur coats and had fancy china, and living high and mighty" so they stopped sending money.
  Gram (Emily) says that her mother Emilie was good at math and her father John was good at math and a good writer.
  According to Emily, Mr. Briesemeister was a "mean" man and would not allow her mother to visit with her sister Elisa Dietrich Briesemeister. Emilie and Elisa would sneak off to the woods behind the farm to meet.Elisa liked Em. Elisa's marriage to Herman Briesemeister was also "arranged" like her sister's.
  July 1997 - update - spoke with Helmut Briesemeister on the phone. (son of Elisa Dietrich) He said when he was in Berlin during the WWII, he met Emilie and Elisa's sister in Berlin. He said the Dietrich family was from Darmstadt (not Dusseldorf) and owned a pipe factory there? Old family postcards from Wiesbaden - did they move there later??

  There was also WAGNER family in Door County, Wisconsin, and they were also from Diedorf so there appears to be connection to Dietrichs - some Dietrichs were also wedding witnesses for WAGNER wedding records in Door County.
