Note: --Source of information: Harry ADAMS (Bedminster, PA); He married Esther first and then Elizabeth OWENS. He was a clock maker. He owned land in Towamencin (1760-65) and later in Philadelphia where he kept a small clockmaker's shop. Some of his clocks still exist. This man is assumed to have been named for his paternal GrandFather. --Source of information: ChrisYoder <cyoder@@mail.tds.net>; "Sotheby's American: Maine Antique Digest, March 1998", Sotheby's, New York City SOUTHEBY'S AUCTION ITEM (see scrapbook photo) <http://www.maineantiquedigest.com/articles/soth0398.htm>: Israel Sack, Inc. paid $442,500 for a circa 1765 Philadelphia tall-case clock made for Elizabeth and John Bringhurst, the face signed by Jacob Godshalk, and the carving of the case attributed to the Garvan Carver. Silhouettes of the Bringhursts accompanied the clock. It was announced by the auctioneer that the feet of the clock were replaced, and the catalog questioned the originality of the saddleboard, but there was competitive bidding nonetheless, showing that bidders make up their own minds about American furniture and don't always believe what is printed in the catalog. New York City dealer Leigh Keno, the underbidder, said replaced feet didn't bother him on a clock case of this stature. Albert Sack said, "The feet were not obviously new, and we don't believe they are new." --Source of information: Carl H. GOTTSHALL <gottshal@@ix.netcom.com><167 Rose Valley Rd.
