Note: Ancestral File Number:<AFN> 1JGF-1R9 AFN 1JGF-1R9 (Research):It is generally agreed that two young men of the name Kells were with the "Land Adventureres" when Oliver Cromwell invaded Ireland, about 1649. It was also claimed that members of the family were with the armies of King William at the Battle of the Boyne in 1690, and that they came into possession of large tracts of land in the "Ultster Plantation" in the Northern counties of Ireland, a considerable amount of which is still occupied or owned by their descendants, especially in Co. Cavan and C. Fermanagh. One of these young men (Ref. # 1), after returning to England or Scotland, was twice married, but of his first marriage we have no record. His second wife was Miss Crawford. (Ref #2). Of his children the name of only one was recorded. Robert Kells. (Ref # 3) named after one of the Kings of Scotland.
