Per phone conversation with Cora Jean Powell 5-15-2000:
 J. L. Day received the injury to his arm when he was 10 years old. He wanted to help the family out, so he started working in a sugar mill. They ground the sugar cane to cook sugar. Somehow he got caught in the machinery and injured his arm. The Doctors tried twice to save the arm, on the third visit they amputated the arm. She said that he told her that they lived in a log cabin in Tennessee. On the night that his arm was amputated he said that a mountain lion came up to the cabin and started making an awful noise. Apparently the smell of the fresh blood had drew it to the cabin. She could not remember who, but a man went around and shot the lion by the front door of the cabin. J. L.'s bed was next to the front door. He told her that it had been clawing the wall and door trying to get in to where he was.
