a. Note:   In his younger years, Marvin was raised on various Army posts since his father was a career soldier. In 1946, when Marvin was 14 years old, his father was killed in an accident after being transferred to an Army base in New Jersey. Marvin's Mother, Hazel, moved with her four children to live with her parents in El Sereno, California. Around 1947, they moved with their grandparents to Glen Avon, California. Marvin attended school in the Riverside County areas, and was attending Ply High School when the Korean War broke out in 1949. Marvin had joined the 40th Division, of the California National Guardsand when his unit was called up to go to Korea, Marvin was 17 years old. He obtained his Mother's permission to go with his unit to Korea as a Combat Medic. He was wounded while in Korea and received his first Purple Heart. After returning from Korea, Marvin, now known as "Rusty Hardin" re-enlisted into the regular army and was transferred to Ft Sam Houston Texas in San Antonio, Texas. While stationed there, he met his future wife, Carol Dawn Hile, who was also in the Army and stated at Ft Sam.
  After their marriage, Carol ended her career with the Army and concentrated on raising their three children, along with working at various jobs. Marvin continued to make his career with the Army, and served two terms in Vietnam. He was wounded several more times while in Vietnam, and had a total of 7 purple hearts, along with two Silver stars, and two Bronze stars. He retired from the Army, after 20 years and some months and went to work for the Pennsylvania State Health Department. He retired from there after serving fifteen years.
  Marvin is described as 5 feet, 11 1/2 inches, and 180 pounds. His hair was red at birth but later turned Auburn.
