Note: Ancestral Records and Portraits vol 2 page 693 THOMAS BOURNE of Tenderten, Kent, of the same family as Rear-Admiral Nehemiah Bourne, who commanded the Parliamentary forces, was born in England 1601, and died in Marshfield, Mass., 1684. A Deputy from Marshfield 1642, he was Assistant to Governor Winslow, 1642 to 1646. He married Elizabeth (???). One of their daughters married John Bradford, a son of the Governor, and another daughter married Josiah Winslow, a brother of Governor Edward Winslow. Their daughter, Lydia, married Nathaniel Tilden. A Brief Genealogical History of Arthur, Henry and John Howland and Their Descendants page 216 (*) Jonathan Bourne was a son of Jonathan (and Hannah Tobey) Bourne, who was a descendant of Thomas Bourne, b. 1583, d. 1664. Thomas was in Plymouth in 1637, and early settled in Marshfield. He m. Elizabeth (???), who d. 7th mo., 1660. They had six children, and their only son John, b. --, d. 12th mo., 1684, lived in Marshfield, and m. 18, 7, 1645, Alice Bisbee, who d. 5th mo., 1686. John and Alice had seven children. The New England Ancestry of Dana Converse Backus page 57 THOMAS BOURNE was a man in his fifties when with his wife and family he arrived at Plymouth in New England, not later than 1636 since his daughter Margaret married there and her first child was born in September 1637. He became a freeman of the Colony January 2, 1636/7 according to one authority, or a year later according to another, and he was an early proprietor of the region adjoining the town of Plymouth. This was known first as Greens Harbor, then as Rexham, and was finally incorporated under the name Marshfield. He was one of the deputies who first represented the town in the Colonial government. Savage calls him "a man of substance and repute." His wife Elizabeth was buried July 18, 1660, aged 70, and "Mr. Thomas Bourne dyed and was buried 11 May 1664 being then aged 83."
