  OBITUARY
Old Resident Passes Last Rites Monday
Peter Myhres, resident of this community the past thirty-three years died at his home in Veblen, November 16, 1934, of heart failure at 8:00 that morning. Mr. Myhre had been in poor health the past several months but his condition was not considered so serious by his friends. The end came suddenly Friday morning while about the home, causing severe shock in members of the family and close friends. He had reached the age of 72 years, 6 months and 6 days when death over took him.
Peter Myhre was born in West Toten, Norway, May 10, 1862 of parents Peter and Helen Myhre. At the age of 19 in the year of 1881 he immigrated to the United States, arriving in Lake Mills, Iowa and for two years made his home with his uncle Lars Myhre of that community. During this time the Uncle was killed in a train accident, and in 1883 the deceased came to Crow Creek Indian Reservation at Fort Thompson on the Missouri river north of Chamberlain, in this state, where he was employed by the federal government for several years. During this time he homesteaded in that community.
In the year of 1884, on November 13 he was united in marriage to Miss Helen Evenson. To this union ten children were born. One (Lewis) preceding his father in death, dying in infancy.
In 1890 the family moved to Park county, Minnesota where they lived for 12 years, and in 1901 they moved to Marshall county, locating six and one-half miles northwest of this city. From this farm they moved to Veben where they have since made their home.
He leaves to mourn his passing, his wife, Helen and nine children; Olof and Carl Myhre of this city; Henry Myhre of Enderlin, N.D.; Lewis Myhre of Hillhead; Mrs. Emma Lien of Huron; Mrs. Reuben Puphal of Madison, Wisconsin; Mrs. Harry Haagenson of this city; Mrs. Jacob Haagenson of Hillhead; and Mrs. Clyde Sargent of this city. He leaves one brother John who lives in Toten, Norway and thirty-six grand children besides many close and warm friends who grieve at his passing.
Funeral services were held Monday, November 19th at the home at one o'clock by the Rev. P. M. Bratlie of the local Lutheran church, who read psalm. 32 and offered prayer, following the hymn "Jesus Lover of My Soul". Mrs. Olof Quammen sang "God Will Take Care of You".
Services at the church consisted of the hymn, "Jesus Savior Pilot Me", sang by Mrs. Quammen, Miss Altah Rusdall, Lewis Risdall and Mrs. Carl Gustatson. The pastor read the ritual followed by Mrs. Quammen singing " The Old Rugged Cross". Rev. Bratlie preached the funeral sermon from Amos 4:12, "Prepare To Meet Thy God". The quartette sang, "God Be With You Till We Meet Again". Services were largely attended, and business houses closed during the services.
Interment was made in the Veblen cemetery, north of town.
