Note: OBITUARY: The home of Paul Johnson, 50, himself the father of 10, was usually a sort of open house, because he always welcomed the friendsof
his children. It was a sort of standing joke among his four daughters
that their boy friends would rather sit and talk with Mr. Johnson thanthe
girls. A resident of 4422 Norwaldo, he died last night in St.Vincent's
Hospital. A life resident of Indianapolis, with the exception of afew years at
Seymour, Mr. Johnson was the son of Elbert and Mary (Teuscher)Johnson.
Mr Johnson's father was a carpenter and the son hoped to follow inthat
trade. But jobs were hard to get, so the son took work as custodianat
Shortridge High School and stayed 15 years. At Shortridge Mr.Johnson's
good humor and understanding of youth manifested themselves and he wasa
prime favorite with pupils and teachers. If he was ill they came tosee
him. It was "Hi, Rusty!" or "Hi, Sandy!" wherever he went. To the
children visiting his home, to whom he was constantly friend andplaymate,
Mr. Johnson was "DAD" to all as well as to his own children. He couldnot stand
to see a tot cry over a broken toy and he has fixed many for them.
