Note: from Virginia. History book states that John was burned at the stake, but according Branson records he escaped, after 3 attempts by the Indians to kill him. An Indian befriended him and allowed him to escape in the night. He was not recognized by his family because of his poor mental and physical condition. He lived 3 years more. The company of men were in connection with Rev. Thomas Beals who was
a frontier Quaker. Thomas' nephew, John Beals, married John Branson's sister, Lois. See Family notes under father, Thomas Branson.
