Note: REFN28 Marion arrived in Great Salt Lake City with the Pueblo Soldiers (Morm an Battalion) and the Mississippi Brethern on the 28th of July 1847. Ch urch records show Marion, age 13, with 2 brothers and 2 sisters. He was b aptized several times, 8th Aug 1847: 7 July 1856: 17 Sept 1859: 10 Sept 1876, (rebab.) The index to Patriachal Blessings Vol. 47, page 462, shows a blessing on 4 July 1872. at Heber City, Utah. by John Smith. The Church Historians office has several items that can be veiwed, including the Horace Greeley letter, and the copy of the Indian Ceda r Stick Manuscript with Marion's signature. Marion was instrumental in devel oping the Deseret Alphabet: he made and played the "Fiddle", was a Lawyer, an d Prosecuting Attorney for Emery County in Utah, was a school teacher, Indian Inter preter, a Missionary to the Indians in Southern Utah, and he was a guide to th e Powell exploration group. The Utah Historical Quarterly has printed the journal of Thales H. Ha skell, who was called on the Mission to the Moquis Indians, in Arizona,with Mari on. He had several wives in Pologamy. (I haven't seen it) MJG He is on the 1880 Census of Emery County, and was last known to be th ere in 1883.
