Note: Marion\Miriam B. Durfee, called "Aunt Mainie" was the sister who took Emma Durfee's child after his birth and took care of him. She was married Henry Miller;(who died in Beaver Dam and it is said t hey burried him in his back yard) She later married George Lemmon and li ved in Willard, Utah. Henry Miller Shelton, was a child of a polygamous marriage betwee n Emma and Marion J or I or S Shelton. There must have been a marriage as we have found a divorce petition on file in the Cache County Court House records; Divorce granted! Emma did not want the child . Her brothers, (don't know which ones) went to Southern Utah to find Mario n Shelton and tell him of the child, but he would not admit that he had marrie d Emma. Emma would have been 17 when she married. Records are not available . Henry was born in 1862, Marion was married to a Henry Miller and named the ch ild after him. ( According to family legend) Henry Shelton did not know who h is birth father was, until years later, and then he took the Shelton nam e. We have found him on census records living with Cynthia Durfee, and list ed as a grandchild.(Beaver Dam, B.E., Utah) with the name of Henry Durfee. The story told by a Mr. Joseph Durfee was that Henry was a rambunti ous teenager and was "acting up" with some friends in Mendon, when Emma B assett came along and reprimanded him. He must have sassed her, because sh e was said to have said, "Don't you talk to me like that, I'm your mother" Henry then asked his grandparents for some information and was to ld the story of his birth. He was married to Elizabeth Hannah Findley soo n after that and gave the Shelton name on his marriage liscence. Emma married Loren Elias Bassett and had 10 children by him. Sh e live in Mendon, Utah. A gr-grandson, Maurice Bassett Tingey, living in Weston, gave m e the picture I have of Emma Durfee Bassett. Mr Bassett was also on the pi cture. I had only the one of Emma copied. ( She was the ugliest woman I eve r saw!)
