 Furthermore, that must have been where he married Martha Louisa Stanley. Matilda was born in 1858 & they showed up on the 1860 census in Madison Co., AR
  During the Civil War, he was fleeing bushwackers assisted by a teenage grandson when the bushwackers caught up with them on the Mulberry River and killed both of them.
  Many people in the area where they settled in Arkansas persisted, then and now, on pronouncing their name Thornsberry. Consequently, at least one of his sons accepted that spelling and the descendants go by Thornsberry today. His son, the first Owen, believed their name was Thornberry and instilled that belief in his children. Owen's son, Hiram, insisted that their name had no "s".
