Windsor, John 41 Farmer b. AL 1. Information contributed to the Madison Co. Clerk's office states: John David Windsor (b.1838) and his Uncle Jacob Windsor both enlisted in the Texas Calvary at New Salem, Rusk County in 1861 and 1863 respectively. both are also listed in the 1870 U.S. Census of Cherokee County. One record says John of Caswell County, N.C. and Jacob, wife and two children arrived in Texas in 1861. Madison County records show that John Windsor had purchased some 1400 acres of land from 1877 to 1888, on which he paid taxes.
2. John Windsor's second home was near the railroad, between George and North Zulch. He gave it the name of "Sugar Hill" prompted by the coarse, white, deep sand of the location. He died there 27 Dec 1914, at the age of 76 years. He was born 15 Oct 1838. Eliza Elizabeth Barrow Windsor lived there until her death 31 Jan 1925.
