Looking for Moses Hughes family. Elizabeth Ball married Moses Hughes and one of their children was Sarah Hughes that married William Edmonds. In Amherst County, Joseph Stricklin mentions land purchased from William Edmonds and names his children. My family name is Thurmon and my gg uncles and cousins married into Strickland, Edmonds, and the Hughes families. I would like to have information on Moses Hughes and his parents or siblings. Is William Hughes, father of Harrison and Spotwood, his brother? Jesse Beck Sr. married Amey Hughes and Jesse Beck Jr. married Judith Thurmond, daughter of William Thurmond and Lucy Wills Thurmond. Jesse Beck Jr. is guardian for Spottwood and David Hughes, orphans. SPOTWOOD HUGHES m. PAULINA JENKINS Sep 22, 1834 in Amherst, Va (orphan) Spottswood H. HUGHES, born in Amherst Co, VA about 1813, moved to Cabell Co, Wv where he enlisted in U.S. Army during the War with Mexico. Died in Mexico City in 1847. Wife Paulina Jenkins. Our family moved into St. Francis, County Mo. Some of the Strickland, Edmonds and Thurmon moved to that area and can confirm their relationship to these families, because of my cousins. I can prove my relationship through all of those families except the Thurmonds. In other words, my cousins are the direct descendants of Strickland, Edmonds, and Hughes family. I am missing a generation somewhere. I know that I am in this Thurmond family that married onto the Hughes family. Can anyone help me connect Moses Hughes to William Hughes? I think they were brothers, but do not have definite proof. Vince Hughes http://www.my-ged.com/hughes/ Whig Meetings: "Whig Meeting", (Nashville) Republican Banner, 24 Feb. 1847, p.2. A.G.
