a. Note:   James Job Carpenter was born in Steelville Missouri, October 8, 1894 and died in Richmond, California, August 1, 1948. He was 53 years of age. He died of an apparent heart attack. He was buried at Golden Gate National cemetery in San Bruno, California on August 6, 1948. No known Heart disease prior to sudden death. His son, Ray sent word of his death, from Richmond Ca, to Ok relatives: J. J. Carpenter passed away this morning, 2:30 am Aug 1, 1948.
 Middle and ring fingers of right hand were shot off in a hunting accident as a boy. He was crossing a fence with his fingers over the barrel hole of the shot gun when it discharged. He was a cook in the army, supposedly because of the missing fingers.

 Note from Florence Carpenter's Journal:
 In August 1918, Jim left for the Army in the World War. First went to Des Moines, Iowa and then to Denver, Colorado. He was gone 14 months. He worked at the General Hospital.
