Notes
a. Note:   LDS records show the following information:
James A. Carpenter, Born 11 nov. 1831, TN, Died 4 Apr 1908, Christian Co. MO
Spouse: Julia M. CARR (AFN: V4N2-ZH) Marriage, 28 Jan 1866 , Vigo Co., IN
Batch number: 5026416 Sheet: 2 [ From LDS site,
Jim, I dug out an old letter from Harvey & Velta (Mallow) Harman. The
Mallows did a much better job of keeping family records than the Harmans.
In fact, in this letter, dated Sep. 12, 1871, Velta says,"You know your
grandma Julia didn't like to talk about her family." The fact is that
grandma loathed her grandma Carr, and grandad said Ruth Carr was the
 meanest woman he'd ever met.
Anyhow, Velta said James, Jr. had two children: Frank, who married Agnes --------, and Anna, who married Tom Johnson. She said James, Jr. lived on
State line road in Kansas City, Mo.. If my memory is correct (don't count
on it) Anna and Tom Johnson had at least two children: Nelly (Johnson)
Capps, whom I visited about 1970 on their farm which was about 30 miles
east of Kansas City. Nelly's brother, Jim, is the one who sent me the
clipping of the Carpenter boys when they found a Civil War rifle in a
hollow tree. Nelly fed me a chicken dinner and was very glad to talk about
the family, but she had no new information. Jim Johnson has (or had) the
old family Bible, but said there was no further information in it, and it
was in such bad shape that he didn't care to open it any more.
