a. Note:   A reading of "The History of the Juniata Valley" and a perusal of
 ship records describe Georg Wolf as a native of Heidelberg, Germany who
 arrived in Philadelphia with a shpload of German immigrants in 1771, and
 settled in Tulpehocken Township, Berks County. His name probably was
 spelled "Wolf." He bacame a farmer and landowner, and in 1803, sold a
 large tract of land in Penn's Valley to his son Anthony. George is said
 to have enlisted to fight in the Revolution in 1776, and is believed to
 have performed valuable service as an interpreter.
 However, most of this information must be regarded as apochryphal, since the Berks County roots of the Wolf family have not been
 documented. There were numerous persons bearing the same name in and
 around Berks County at the time, and no confirmation has been found to
 document the suggested Revolutionary War service.
 Genealogies of various Wolf branches studied in the Bellefonte Library and Museum do, however, indicate Georg Wolf, father of Anthony
 Wolf and siblings as having migrated with his family from Berks County to
 Centre County (then Northumberland) by way of Lebanon, where he was a
 farmer and landowner, who sold part of his holdings to Anthony and,
 perhaps, other sons.
