Note: Arrived in US in 1859 at age of 17, Theobald married Mary Ardner, age 18 at St. Joseph Church, Tiffin Ohio. Father Binn presided. Theobald was born in a two story building in Mittlebexbach (Saar) Germany. The first floor of the building was a meat market. Theobald came to America on a small boat. There were three other brothers who also came to America presumable all together. The brothers had two sisters who stayed in Germany. The boys all went to Tiffin Ohio. It was said that they came to the US to escape the war and being drafted. The following was compiled by Gervace Mayer Ewald. Daughter of Ida Pirrung Mayer. "After arriving in the United States, Theobald (Dewalt) Pirrung was a Marshal before they had a Police force, he worked in the woolen mills many years and was a foreman at the time that they quit business in Tiffin. After that, he was a laborer. He was a good provider, family always had plenty to eat. He used to butcher three 300lb. hogs that he raised at the end of his lot at 38 Jackson St. Tiffin, Ohio. He planted a field where the Washington School now stands. He used to own the lot next door to 38 Jackson but he probably sold it to apply the money on the rear addition to the house at 38 Jackson when Carl, his youngest son, was a baby, probably in 1891. Their four rooms to the front was built about 1870. When Theobald was married in 1866 to Mary Ardner it was not such a smooth day, the bridesmaid and best man were to come from Fostoria, Ohio that morning by horse and buggy and the buggy broke down. They did not get to Tiffin at the appointed time so bride and groom went on to church. There was another couple being married at that time and when the mass was over they told the Priest that their attendants did not arrive, then he explained the trouble to the preceding wedding attendants and they consented to stand for Theobald and Mary. The correct attendants from Fostoria came later in the day. The bridesmaid for the two weddings in one day later became a sister Theresa in the order of St. Francis Home in Tiffin -- her name was Ida Vollmer; best man was Adams. Do not know how Mary Ardner came to be married in Tiffin, no doubt Theobald was living there. Mary could have been working in Tiffin at the time of being married." From Tiffin Newspaper "The golden wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Dewald Pirrung of 38 Jackson street was celebrated this morning at a nuptial high mass service in St. Joseph Church attending by 500 friends.
