-The boarding house that Alice was working in when she met her future husband, James, used to belong to a family named McIntyre. Her early life was not a happy one. She was only 15 years of age and her first chore of the morning was emptying the slop jars of the overnight guests before she attended school. James was her school teacher, and in the evening, she would sneak to meet him; he courted her in the cemetery yard where they are both buried today.
