Jose died in about 1938 when he was 13 years old of septicemia of the arm. Manuel, the eldest brother married Eneida Suarez in 1951 and had two children with her: Manolin Alonso in 1953, and Rosario Alonso on JAN/22/1955. Jesus, the youngest brother married Camen Luisa Borges, in 1954, and had a son in 1955.
The brothers lived in the same province as Castro, which led to their involvement in Castros revolution. Castro fought in la Sierra Maestra against Batistas troops, and had a second front or "Segundo Frente" in El Escambray las villas. Jesus became involved in the second front before his older brother Manuel. However, after the Castros claim on power in 1956, many of the men of the second front, displeased with the new communist platform, banded together to oppose Castro. Vincente Mendez became the leader of the new "Segundo Frente," and Manuel Alonso was made second in command. In 1961 while engaging in guerilla warfare, Manuel wounded in the shoulder and captured by Castros Communist army. Manuel was sent to prison for an unimaginable twenty years. Vicente Mendez escaped at this time, and went to Florida where he reorganized. In 1970 Mendez returned to Cuba and attempted another anti-revolutionary attack, in which he was killed.
In about 1964, when his son was only 8, Jesus was captured with a car full of weapons and ammunitions. He was sent to prison and he didnt see his son again until ten years later when he was released from prison. After his release from prison, Jesus and his family immigrated to the US in about 1974.
In 1966, while he was still in jail Manuel got divorced from Eneida. In 1970 he got into a rehabilitation plan, where he was able to work on a farm with his family. So he got married again to a woman named Maria and had two more children with her: in 1971 they had Idalmnis, and in 1974, Idania . In 1980 after his release he immigrated to the US in 1980 through the Mariel Harbor.
