Note: 45 o'clock Custom Field:<_FA#> A native of New Orleans Custom Field:<_FA#> Resident of Pineville for last 50 years Custom Field:<_FA#> 1850Census: Name is listed as Joseph L. Richardson Custom Field:<_FA#> 1850Carpenter Custom Field:<_FA#> 1850Claims to be born in Louisiana Custom Field:<_FA#> 1910Washington has dad Joseph born in Alabama Custom Field:<_FA#> Civil war vet. Joseph Lawrence is listed in the 1850 census as Joseph L. Richardson, 29 yrs., carpenter, living in house #351. Next listed in this household is Louisa, 27yrs., Felonize, 22yrs., Rosanna, 13yrs., Caroline, 11yrs., Joseph, Jr. 7 yrs., Lewis, 5yrs., & Washiington, 1yr. Equally bizzare is that Elizabeth Hoffman is listed as Elizabeth Huffman, 34 but living two doors down in the household of Louis Huffman, 45 yrs. with 6 kids, in house #349. And next door in house #352 is Adam Huffman, 68 with Matilda Huffman, 55 yrs. Also there is an Adam Huffman, 24 yrs, a farmer, with Amelia, 24 yrs., Milly 4 yrs, & Louis 1 month, in Pineville Explaination of the above from Norma SEEDER Rose 8 Apr 2000: Hi Harold: The 1850 census that showed Richardson instead of Lawrence was simply a mistake. The census taker was the uncle of the gal who married Lafayette Lawrence, and his name was Labat He was a lawyer, and a neighbor. I figure they got to gossiping about the Richardson's and he just wrote Joseph L. Richardson instead of Lawrence. The Louisa was Lizzie, The Labats were a stuffy bunch (I can talk about them since that was my gt. grandparents, and the Census taker was my gt gt grandfather's older brother. I think he just couldn't let himself write lizzie, why he didn't write the word Elizabeth I don't know. Elizabeth Hoffman Escoffie Lawrence was definitely older than Joseph, in fact she was 6 years older, or more, but in future census records she got younger and he got older. Bet she was giving the information!! Felonize was her daughter by Escoffie, if you recall the other daughter was already married to Christian Baden. The Louis Hoffman, neighbors to the Lawrences either Adam Hoffman's son or Louis Hoffman's son, I have forgotten, but the brother of Elizabeth Hoffman was born in 1804. Don't Let the 1850 Census confuse you, I'll get my book down and check it out, I have the 1850 Census. By the way Elizabeth Hoffman Escoffie had three daughters by Escoffie, I found that in a Probate record. Felonise said my mother had three children by my father (Escoffie) who is now deceased, meaning the other daughter. I'll check this all out first chance I get and get it back to you, by the way, Patricia Carol Boyles is hot on the trail of the Lawrences before they got into La. Norma . Here is what I have compiled from the sources cited within. Enjoy ! Houston Tracy, Jr. Information as shown here is from Miss Sydney M.
