Note: Information from the New Orleans Public Library, the "City Directory", actually an 1805 city census later published as a directory. No listing in 1807. He was listed as the head of the family, 2 white free males under 16 (Jose/Joseph and Juan Domingo?), 1 white female over 16 (Ysavel?) and 1 under 16 (Maria Del Carmen?). One male slave under 16 and one female slave over 16 were counted. At the same address, 55 Rue Royal N., was an Antonio Rimero and 1 female over 16. Directory lists him as Jose. Church records list him as Joseph in baptism records of his children and Jose in his marriage record. Witnesses at his 3/24/1802 wedding were Andres Monton, Julian Carvallo, Julian Aguilera. Married at St. Louis Cathedral, New Orleans. Archdiocese of New Orleans Sacramental Records, Vol. 7, 1800-1803. He married Isavel Virginia DeLille. (4/14/97) Per Glenn Toca, Archdiocese of New Orleans Sacramental Records also record: * The births of Antoine and Philippe as May 26, 1809, they were twins! * Birth of Louisa Margarita Thomasa on Sept. 18, 1811 * Death of "Jose" May 2, 1813 * Death of Isavel Jan. 23, 1814. Published index to 1810 census lists "S." De Toca on Rampart Street, Orleans Parish, page #263. Original handwritten document is very hard to read, ink on hand lined paper, bleed through from the other side. First initial could be S, J, F, L, etc. Assumption is that it is really "J" for Jose. Census records three free white males under 10 yr old (Juan Domingo, Philippe and Antoine?), one between 10-16 (Joseph?), and one over 45 (Jose). Females included one under 10 (Maria Del Carmen), and one 26-40 (Ysavel). (Identities surmised - not recorded in census). Charles R. Maduell, Jr., in New Orleans Genesis, Vol 18, pages 183, compared the 1810 census with "Whitney's New Orleans Directory and Louisiana and Mississippi Almanac for the year 1811". The almanac is an alphabetical listing of those doing business who lent their names for publication, although many apparently did not, for fear of being taxed. He determined that Joseph Toca lived at #28 Rampart Street and worked as a Broker. He confirmed name as Joseph. St. Louis Cathedral Funeral Register, 1803 - 1815, page 226, has listing for Jose De Toca. (4/15/97) According to Glenn Toca, the church records show his death at May 2, 1813. WPA recorded inscription at St. Louis Cemetery #1,"Maria de Los Dolores, child of Joseph Alonzo Toca and Isavella Delilles. Died August 6, 1807, age 10 months." WPA index cards also contain the following, recorded as from the St. Louis Cathedral records, "De Foca (sic), Don Joseph, Native of Spain, Son of Don Francisco de Foca (sic) and Dona Magdalena Bermudes. Husband of Dona Isavel Delille, Native of Marsella (sic), France. Died May 2, 1813. Age 46 yrs. WPA colonial records index has a card for "de Toca, Don Joseph. Merchant and resident of New Orleans". The card records data from 1805 census, as well as some court cases. May 22, 1798 Witness in the case of Juan Vale versus Don Antonio Le Dey. WPA #1798052203 Juan Dale (sic) v.
