After discussions with the ward nurse it has been established that Frankie was not admitted due his diabetics. We are at present awaiting for the test results that have been done so far.
Frankie was diagnosed with Stomach Cancer and the long term prognosis was not very good, after 8 weeks in care at the Woodside House Nursing Home, Baglan, Port Talbot. Frankie died in his sleep of his illness on the 2nd December 1999 @@ 10:10hrs. Frankie was buried in the same grave plot as his wife Grace on the 8th December 1999. The funeral was well attended with members of his immediate family and friends from the banding and chorale world close and far, this showed how well Frankie was liked by all walks of life in the music field.
Francis George Loveday was born in Water Street, Aberavon, Port Talbot on the 29 July 1932. After a good schooling at Abergwynfi Infant and Primary Schools, he then went onto Cymmer Grammer, where he finished and started life as a glass blower in the local glass factory and then saw national service with the Royal Artillery from 1950 -1952, Also as a member of a musical family he learnt to play the euphonium and after a great deal of patience became a very prolific euphonium player. As one would say the best in Wales.
His banding career took him from the local village band to one of the best bands around in the early 50`s in South Wales, The Steel Company of Wales. he then went to Mid Rhondda and was offered the chance to go to the famous Black Dyke Mills Band, which he refused.
