  Oscar W. Samlaska Dies of Heart Attack
  The Madelia community was shocked and deeply grieved when the news reached town that Oscar Samlaska, respected resident of this village, died suddenly of a heart attack while working in Spencer's gravel pit, southeast of town, at about 4:30 Saturday afternoon, July 24, 1948.
  Mr. Samlaska, who was a road maintenance and gravel contractor, was working alone at the pit at the time of his death.
  Oscar William Samlaska was born at Comstock, Wisconsin on January 23, 1889. He was married at Cumberland, Wisconsin, on June 2, 1919, to Kathryn McCarthy. Later the family moved to Minnesota, and came to Madelia from Amboy in 1939.
  Surviving are his wife, ten children, five grandchildren; three brothers and two sisters. The children are: Robert, of Madelia; Beatrice (Mr. Ray Kaufenberg), St. Paul; Dorn, of Marengo, Illinois; Grace (Mrs. Gerald Baker), Madelia; Roy, Madelia; Richard, Tacoma, Washington; Kathleen (Mrs. Bill Ykema), Madelia; Margaret, Monica, and Gerald, all of Madelia. The brothers are: David Samlaska, Cumberland, Wisconsin; Earnest, Savage, Minnesota; and Henry, Superior, Wisconsin. The sisters are: Mrs. Fred Robinson (Bertha), of St. Paul; and Mrs. Jack Finer (Ethel of Superior, Wisconsin.
  Funeral services, conducted by Father J. A. McShane, were held at the Sandberg Funeral Home in Madelia at 9 o'clock Wednesday forenoon, July 28, and burial was in the National Cemetery at Fort Snelling.
