Note: REFN: 26 SEQUATCHIE COUNTY, TENNESSEE SEQUATCHIE COUNTY ONCE A PART OF HAMILTON COUNTY SEQUATCHIE COUNTY until 1857 was a part of HAMILTON COUNTY and ITS main center and courts were held at the present chattanooga. The SEQUATCHIE RIVER runs through what is now SEQUATCHIE COUNTY and its fertile valleys are the site of many prosperous homes and people who were formerly under the jurisdiction of Hamilton County. The County derived its name from the river of the same name and the valley, which is fertile and productive. The county is small compared to the adjoining counties. Being a part of HAMILTON COUNTY until as late as 1857, the names of its first county officials were the same as those who were officers of HAMILTON COUNTY, and they resorted to the jurisdiction and control of the courts and government of HAMILTON. Some of the families whose names are mentioned in connection with the annals of HAMILTON COUNTY, either resided in or owned lands in SEQUATCHIE County. The county appears to have had an actual population of less than 4000 people when the United States Census of 1920 was taken, but since that period, of course, the population has considerable increased. Good highways traverse the county. The county seat of Sequatchie County is DUNLAP. 1880 Census of Sequatchie Co.,TN lists James as 1 year old, living in the household of his parents P.B. age 22 and Eliza age 20. 1920 Walker Co.
