Geneseo Republic - 23 Sep 1881 Fortescue W. Linnell died at this home about four miles north of this city, on Saturday morning last, aged 22 years. Deceased had been sick since last March, of dropsy, and a post mortem examination by Dr. Wells, Antes, Brown and Hume, revealed disease of the liver and spleen as the primary cause of death. he leaves a wife, daughter of Ad. Miller and one child, as well as a large circle of friends to mourn his death. The remains were laid to rest at the Pink Prairie cemetery last Sunday. Fortesque was a farmer in Henry County, IL at the time of his marriage and the birth of his son. Only four months after Clarence's birth, Fortesque became ill with "dropsy" and died on 17 Sep 1881. He left a trust fund of $5000 for Clarence and an inheritance for Anna that sustained her ina later difficult marriage.
