  Linnell, Dorris Smith a retired registered nurse, died June 30th at age 98 at Augustana Health Center in Minneapolis, MN. She was born on a farm in Lyon County, MN. She attended the country school and graduated from Marshall High School. She continued her education at Asbury Methodist Hospital in Minneapolis where she graduated as a nurse in 1931. She practiced nursing until her marriage to Richard "Gus" Linnell in 1938. From 1948-1958 she owned and operated the Blaisdell Avenue Day Nursery. She returned to nursing in 1958 and retired from Abbott Northwestern Hospital in 1975. Her love of travel took her to all 50 states as well as abroad. She visited China, Australia, Russia, Panama and Europe several times. Her last major trip was a Baltic Sea Cruise at age 87. She was a long time member of Aldrich Avenue Presbyterian Church. Mrs. Linnell was preceded in death by her husband in 1975 and two brothers, James Douglas Smith and John E. Smith. She is survived by her son, Richard Linnell of Birmingham, MI, daughter Kathryn Clark of Baltimore MD, son-in-law Thomas Clark, four grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister Helen Thomas of Richmond, Va., brother George Alan Smith of Cottonwood MN., Margaret Linnell, Karen Linnell and many attentive and loving nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at Augustana Chapel, 1007 E. 14th St., Minneapolis MN. At 11:00 AM on Saturday, Aug. 8th, 2009. A reception at Augustana will be held after the service.
