Note: From Random Island Pioneers, page 172. William Bugden, one of the eight Bugden brothers who moved from Trinity to Petley (Upper Lance Cove) in the 1850s, settled in Middle Lance Cove shortly thereafter. His sons also lived in this cove where Bugden was a prominent family name until the 1920s. After many years of being absent from this place - in fact, Middle Lance was abandoned as a settlement for many years - the family name of Bugden returned to be the only family name at present in Middle Lance Cove.
