Notes
a. Note:   From Random Island Pioneers, page 172.
William Bugden, one of the eight Bugden brothers who moved from Trinity to Petley (Upper Lance Cove) in the 1850s, settled in Middle Lance Cove shortly thereafter. His sons also lived in this cove where Bugden was a prominent family name until the 1920s. After many years of being absent from this place - in fact, Middle Lance was abandoned as a settlement for many years - the family name of Bugden returned to be the only family name at present in Middle Lance Cove.
William and Druscilla (nee Tavernor) Bugden, founders of the Bugden family in Middle Lance Cove. Druscilla was a midwife for many years.

Notes taken from Random Island Pioneers Indications are that Middle Lance Cove was established as a settlement during the late 1850's or early 1860's. During that time at least three families (Bugdens, Clarks and Tavernots) made Middle Cove their place of abode. William Bugden, one of the eight brothers who move from Trinity to Petley (Upper Lance Cove) in the 1850's settled in Middle Lance Cove shortley thereafter. His sons also lived in this cove where Bugden was aprominent family name until the 1920's. After many years of being absent from this place - in fact Middle Lance Cove was abandoned as a settlement for many years - the family name of Bugden returned to be the only family name a present Middle Lance Cove. Druscilla Bugden was a midwife for many years. Information from various sources, inc.
