From Subject Received David Egley Family Tree Mon 16/07/2001 23:24 Hello Martin, I am responding to the letter you sent me (Burlington, ON). George Egley is my grandfather's brother. My grandfather's name was Ernest Egley. He had a son called Charles Herbert Egley who was my father. I also have a brother Donald and a sister Debra. I talked to my mother (Betty) and she remembers when they travelled to Vancouver they got to visit Harold. She also remembers the name Arthur but Girly didn't ring a bell. George Egley owned a butcher shop in Vancouver. I have just read your letter and haven't taken the time to get all the details, but my mother did some family tree research a couple of years ago and I will have to get you additional info. I do know that the Egley family had triplets at one point who moved down into Washington State, U.S.A. They would all be grandparents by now. I'll find out more. Also, I have a picture of Ernest and George Egley's parents. His name was also George and her maiden name was Elizabeth Potts. I'll scan it for you tomorrow and email it as an attachment. This is just a preliminary communication to let you know that I will dig out more info for you. Email address is degley@home.com or dave.egley@fike.com (work). Telephone number is (905) 332-0624. I was born in 1946. How about you? Keep in touch. Dave August 20, 2001 14 Chishoim Drive Ingersoll, Ont. N5C 2C4 Hello Martin, I am at last replying to your letter of July 8th. To-day I had a few quiet hours and used them to get a few things done. My apology for the tardiness. Ft. William, London, Stratford-on-Avon, Victoria, Oxford - the county I live in; lots of British names brought here by the emigrating people. Martin, My husband was C. H. Egley, (Charles Herbert), father of David and Donald. David has replied to your enquiry via this modern age invention, the computer. We also have a daughter, Debbie. She too lives in Burlington; married with two daughters. In 1978, Herb and I took a trip out to British Columbia. During the 2nd World War he was stioned on Vancouver Island, a member of the R.C.A.F. He wanted me to see that part of our country too. Here we met Herb's father Ernest, at 18 months of age, with his family, came to America. They went to the U.S.A. - to Grafton, North Dakota. Eventually he came to London, Ont., (20 miles west of Ingersoll). He broke horses for the cavalry during the war of 1914-1918. He met and married Alberta Smith; she was born at Tara, Ont. *** Ernest had a brother George who settled in British Columbia. He had a son Howard, whom we met when we took a trip out to B.C. Another son lived in Washington D.C., U.S.A. had (1978) triplet boys. I know nothing of them now. ***Left London, went to St, Thomas. Got a job on the rail- road as a brakeman, stayed until retirement. Herb had a brother Calvin William, Ernest Egley, deceased. He has a daughter Mary Lou, (Mrs. George Byron), lives in our Nations' capital, Ottawa; she has a son, Sean; he has a wife and little daughter. The Egleys' came from Chesterfield. The father was baptised in the church with the crooked steeple. Herb's father learned to walk on the boat coming over. The surname Egley is derived from the man down in the Lea, (valley); he had chickens and sold their eggs. Well now, becha didn't know that, did you, eh? Hope this information is of some value to you. Good luck in your searching. 'Bye for now, Betty (Irene) Egley (Peachey)
