Note: when he married Mary Daniel, he was listed as Shelham on FreeBMD Donna I came across your excellent ft site this evening and wondered if you would like further information on the Shilham connection. Henry is my G2GF through his first marriage to Catherine Ann Winstone.(born 26.02.1840 died 21.060.1871.) He was born on the 13th March 1836 and died in 1916 Somewhere I have a photograph of his grave and burial details His second marriage was to Mary Daniel (died 19 06.1881) and his third to your Emma Alder. (b 22.06.1853. d.03.03.1940) he sired at least 9 children of whom 6 were Catherine's includiing number 4 Hannah who was my G1GM and 3 Emma's of whom you have some information.. Fanny born 1889 married 3 times 1st. Charles Thynne Munday 2nd ? Graves and finally to an Australian millionaire Solomon Rabin whom I met when they visited my Grandmother in the early 1960's. I am uncertain when she died. Alice (1892-1958) married Laurence (Larry) J Halford (d1964) and their daughter Grace lives quite close to me having retired from teaching about 20 years ago. John (b 16 sept1897 d?) married Lily May Brinkworth (b 16 June 1896 d1972) and they had a son Kevin John Shilham (b29 Nov 1929) of whom I know very little. The Shilham tree extends back to Pool Keynes near Cirencester the earliest being a Daniel Shillam Snr. (1660-1705). and downwards in ever increasing complexity to Eastern and Western sides of the family I can supply you with that list if you are interested. Regards Malcolm Jones, Box, Glos. OLC Box [olc.box@googlemail.com] morning Donna, I'm Back.. Thought you might like the' Barebones' Tree from Henry upwards since this seems to be the way the rest of yours is visible on the web. So here goes. Henry is the 3rd son and 4th child of William Shillam (22.12.1804-07.05.1874.) {PS don't forget English convention not American ie month second set of numbers} and Ann Biddell (1807-Oct 1842). They had 6 surviving children. William is the 2nd child and 2nd son of Thomas Shilham (Oct 1773-Jul 1836) and Betty Barrett (1779-may1816). They had 5 surviving children Thomas is the 10th child and 4th son of John Shilham(1730-1781) and Sarah Goldsmith(-d1783) They had 12 children All born in Cherington John is the 9th child and 3rd son of Daniel Shillam Jnr( b 1664.-?) and his wife Mary ?? They had 10 surviving children. They were mainly baptised in Pool Keynes Daniel is the son of Daniel Shillam Snr.(1659-1705) my G8GF of Pool Keynes and Alice Brown (1662-1727) of Little Compton. and beyond this is guesswork and surmise but I may find his parents one day!!! There are various other researchers linking in to other children from the family and one day ,when I retire properly and have time I and my co-researcher Peter Shilham who looks after the East end of the family will get down to researching it properly. Meantime I hope this will fill in a few gaps and give you something else to follow up. My mother remembers her grandmother Hannah saying that Henry was a large man with ginger hair and a large bushy moustache and worked at the local water-works in the upper Chalford valley- still a beautiful unspoilt place with the Frome (River) stream rather and the Thames and Severn Canal passing through (and due to be restored completely in a few years time). Part of the old Great Western Railway threads its way by Cutting and tunnel along the steep sided, heavily wooded "Golden valley" until it reaches the Sapperton tunnel where it leaves to re-emerge on the dipslope of the Cotswold Hills descending all the way to Swindon and the main line to London. I have a link to an earlier part of the Alder family in Kings Stanley thro' the Wall family but perhaps more of that another day. Regards and happy hunting. Malcolm.
