ON THE POSITIVE SIDE Zoe has noted the issue of William Henry and Frances's children all baptised at CHILTHORNE DOMER, Somerset, which is in the Yeovil RD: 9 Aug 1885 Percy; 1 Oct 1886 Laurie; 13 Jun 1888 William Henry; 3 Nov 1889 Arthur; and 6 Sep 1891 Gilbert. _______________________ 1901 Census, Hillcombe Farm William Trent 56Somt Long SuttonSomersetSouth BrewhamFarmer Frances Trent 42Wilts MereSomersetSouth Brewham Ernest Trent 16Somt Yeovil MarshSomersetSouth BrewhamGardeners Lad Percy Trent 15Somt Chilthorne DomerSomersetSouth Brewham Laura Trent 14Somt Chilthorne DomerSomersetSouth Brewham William Trent 13 Somt Chilthorne Domer/Somerset, South Brewham,Assisting On Farm Arthur Trent 11Somt Chilthorne DomerSomersetSouth Brewham Gilbert Trent 10Somt Chilthorne DomerSomersetSouth Brewham Edward Trent 8Somt LaringtonSomersetSouth Brewham Alfred Trent 4Somt South BruhamSomersetSouth Brewham
________________________________ I have been painstakingly trawling through yet more of Zoe's mountain of paper and (independently from you) found William Henry from Long Sutton and am CONVINCED IT IS HE. Zoe has so much on this family including photocopies of flysheets from two family Bibles. You will love it!!! This ties him firmly into the Chilthorne Domer family I mentioned the other day. There is very little on IGI, but Zoe has been through the parish registers, which survive 1678 - 1745 & 1768 to date. That 23 year gap is fatal to us going further back, so ...... For the moment we start with Samuel TRENT marrying Mary (Molly), widow of John LITTLE, on 26 Jul 1785 at Chilthorne Domer [CD is Zoe's abbrvn] (Molly already had three children by John LITTLE, the eldest in 1774 - see the attachment) Their eldest TRENT dau Mary Ann "was born 2d May 1786 at 3 quarters after 5 o'clock in the morning" and their son Matthew was born there "on Friday morning at 7 o'clock 16 Nov 1787" [photocopy from the family Bible attached] He was a dairy farmer at Yeovil Marsh and married another Mary/Mollie WHITE on 25 June 1808 at Castle Cary [another sheet (not attached - too feint to copy) has an entry "Mary White was born Tuesday September 23 1783 at Noon" - at Yeovil (1851 Census)]. They had four children noted in the bible:- Mary Ann "The 14 October 1809 between four and five a clock in the morning"; John White "the 15 November 1811 at 1 Clock in the afternoon - died 28 February 1812" and buried at Castle Cary; John "July 7 1814 between 7 and 8 Clock in the Eveing [sic]"; and Matthew "Jany 12 1817 between 9 & 10 o clock". A fifth child Elizabeth was baptised on 2 Jul 1821 at Yeovil - but the family bible was by then full up! Mary TRENT ne WHITE died on 11 Feb 1857 at Yeovil Marsh aged 73; Matthew TRENT was alive (widower aged 74) on the 1861 Census at Chilthorne Domer, although Zoe has no trace of his death registration he was buried at CD in April 1862. Alas no Wills. Now Matthew (1817) I mentioned to you the other day - all Zoe's detail comes from a descendant of his. You descend from JOHN, a yeoman farmer who married Sarah EDMUNDS (we know this from the birth certificate of their son Daniel - but no trace so far of the actual marriage event). They had three children - but no family bible that we know of:- 1. Matthew born Q3 1840 at Bowen Hinton, Martock; he married and had a large family and died 26 Aug 1880. Zoe has loads on him. 2. Daniel born 8 July 1842 at Bowen Hinton, Martock; he married and had a large family and died 24 Feb 1894 at Maperton - loads more. 3. WILLIAM HENRY born 1 Sep 1844 at Binham UNREGISTERED BUT BAPTISED at Long Sutton on 20 Sep 1844, a farmer & dealer. Zoe confuses him with Wm Hy b 1855!!! But we now know better. The 1851 Census for Long Sutton confirms this: John TRENT H M 36 Dairyman renting 31 cows b. Chilthorne Domer Sarah TRENT W M 32 b. Sherborne [in 1821] Matthew TRENT S U 10 Scholar b. Martock Daniel TRENT S U 8 Scholar b. Martock Wm Hy TRENT S U 5 Scholar b. Long Sutton William Henry was still unmarried in 1881, living (plain 'William' on the census) with his parents at Farm Cottage, Yeovil Marsh, together with Matthew's 8 year old daughter Bessie. Now John TRENT made his Will in 1885 and died at Yeovil Marsh on13 November 1888 aged 74 (buried at CD on 19 November with a gravestone). In his Will, to proved by his wife Sarah [but alas she predeceased him], he mentions his two sons Daniel and William Henry but not Matthew who had died in 1874; instead he mentions Matthew's daughter Bessie. He specifically directs that William Henry shall have 50 more than Daniel! Sarah TRENT ne EDMUNDS had already died on 3 April 1887 and is buried in the same grave at CD on 9 April aged 66.
____________________________ William Henry never came to Canada. The only son of William Henry Trent that came to Canada was Gilbert. Ernest George Trent went to Australia. ________________
Back to Zoe's transcript, which is very hard to follow, and again NO TRACE of a death of William Henry between 1908 and 1913. What I DID FIND was a death of 'William H TRENT' (Zoe abbreviated everything) Q2 1924 at 'Tisbury' aged 79. Tisbury is the adjacent Registration District to 'Mere' in which Frances died.
