Note: Believe her family emigrated to Canada around 1887 but parents died so she returned to UK. There was said to be a family connection with Masham in Yorkshire. I have found a f amily connection with a John HAMMOND - a farmer at Grantley near Masham - in the 1881 Census. John Hammond's daughter Isabella Hammond and Lucy Jane POUN DER's younger sister Margaret I. POUNDER were both living with their Grandm other Catherine SWALES at Swinton Lodge near Masham. Not found yet what the maiden name of Lucy Jane POUNDER's mother. She could be a HAMMOND - this wou ld explain their eldest son being Mark Hammond POUNDER. Perhaps Catherine SWALES was widowed twice and had been previously married to a HAMMOND. It is believed that there were relatives on the POUNDER side of the family - our father (James Norman BRISCOE) had two cousins Billy Davies and Connie Pounder. At least one ( or both) lived up in the Dunscar area, in a big house. Bi lly Davies had an ironmonger's (?) shop in Bolton town centre. It is also be lieved that our father had an Aunt Louise (that could be Lucy Jane's sister L ouisa). He think there were Davies family in Canada. There is an Ironmongers - W & F Davies at 37 Newport Street in the 1896-1898 Directory. And also W & F Davies at Back Cheapside in the 1966 Directory. There is a reference to a Betsey Pounder in 1960 Title Deed BN 2AR/9/13 There is a "Mrs Lucy POUNDER" living in Bolton around 1899 at the same address as Mark POUNDER was recorded about 1894 so perhaps the whole family had returned and were living there. She is is shown as Head of the household in 1891 Census With her older brother Mark POUNDER, Louisa POUNDER, Mary A POUNDER and Albert POUNDER Witnesses at Wedding Percy Briscoe Mary Ann Pounder Grave is Left Hand side, next to bottom, 10 along. ______________ Married Albert Briscoe, lived 30 Kermoor Avenue. Albert did the job previously done by Lucy's father (Bolton Hospital Saturday, later albert s son did it.
