Albert Edward Pounder lived at Chorley Old Road in Bolton when he died in 1945. ------------------- keith [mailto:knjpounder@btinternet.com] Sent: 11 September 2009 16:53 To: mbriscoe@zetnet.co.uk Subject: The Pounders
  Hello again Martin,
I have been looking more closely at the information you sent me about the Pounders and I can give you some more precise dates for some of the things and also add something. Albert Edward Pounder(gas fitter--later becoming gas inspector) married Betsy Schofield on 23rd January 1909. He was born 1st April 1885 and died 2nd October 1945 following an operation for Tuberculosis. Their son Albert, my father, was born 2nd quarter 1909and his younger sister Constance was born 13th June 1912. Her married name was Walker and she died August 1996. Albert was 28 when he married my mother Hilda Holden on 16th October 1938. They divorced around 1947/48 although I have not been able to find any record of it. I believe he remarried in 1949 and another son(John I think) was born 1953. Albert died 30th April 2002 having apparently knocked 5 years off his age. He had something of a reputation for telling lies so this could well be the case. I married Jill Benson on 26th August 1961 and we have a son Neill, born 6th June 1967. He married Jayne Atkinson from the Isle of Man on 18th April 1992 and they have two sons. Aidan was born 17th May 1998 and Alastair 20th June 2001. I hope this helps to fill in a few more gaps, and brings everything up to date. Do you happen to know if any photographs exist or where I might find any, especially Albert and Albert Edward?

Note:   (Research):I only know what I have found out fairly recently. I personally have no recollection of my father since around 1947/48. I did know that he met my mother whilst working at a colliery and I did know that he worked at the power station around 1945/47when it opened. I did know that he had the shop. This would be around 1952/53.I was delivering papers at the time for a shop nearby and they realized the connection. I have not,so far, been able to trace the divorce from my mother. It must have been around 1949 but the local archive office have no record. The marriage certificate for Albert and Betsy shows a marriage date of 23 Jan 1909. Connie later retracted the statement when we got to know her better so I don't place too much emphasis on that----attitudes at that time were not as liberal as today. He was never mentioned in her company.
There was a Pounder shoe shop in the same area and I think they made their own shoes at one point but cannot be sure. That would explain the leather goods. I have requested a birth certificate but this hasn't arrived yet.
