I wonder if anything can be deduced from that there was no family present at the marriage though it could be that there had been a service nearer to their home or one would follow. The marriage at the cathedral just being a formality though still odd that no one accompanied them there.
Mary Jane had been working in Ripon in 1861, I haven't found him in 1861 so must look again as perhaps he was in Ripon.
I noticed also that the majority of censuses give an age which suggests date of birth as about 1844. The marriage is age 22 in 1865. Catherine SWALES, widow aged 57 living at Swinton Lodge, Swinton With Warthermask, Yorkshire in 1881 Census. She has grand-daughter Isabella HAMMOND Aged 13, born in Grantley living with her. Presume that John HAMMOND or his wife must be her daughter. Also Margaret I. POUNDER, an other grand-daughter - she is born in Bolton and would seem to be the daughter of James POUNDER.
