Notes
a. Note:   burial is listed as Mar 12, 1884 which is 3 months after death...not sure why. perhaps the ground was frozen and they had to wait for burial until Spring???
Cemetery plot states last name as Gudger so somehow the name changed over time. ----------- GOUGER James B 1822-01-15 Nov 1822 HGA--- Richard & Patience
GUDYAR James M 1843-11-09 CM Pike,Madeleane (spelled incorrectly...should be Ardelina)
----------------------- Dear Brenda: I am a descendant of James and Ardelina's son William Richard. William Richard married Clementine Johnson. They had 6 children - Eliza, George, Emily, Ardelina, Sarah Jane, and James. James married Maud Sinclair. They had 9 children - Amy, Patience, Christine, George, Arthur, Warren, Eliol, John, and Joseph. Joseph married Marguerite Dalton. They had 4 sons - Johnson, Warren, Gary and Garland Lindbergh. Garland Lindbergh is my father!
My information indicates that James Goodyear and Ardelina Pike were from Carbonear and that they moved to Little Catalina where they had 3 sons and 7 daughters. Our family records (rightly or wrongly) suggest that James was one of 14 sons of Thomas Goodyear and Miss Vokey.[note from Donna Alden -Bugden: parents are incorrect...should be Richard and Patience Gouger...grandparents, James Gouger and Mary Vokey] Thomas Goodyear landed at Harbour Grace where he met and married Miss Vokey. Thomas and Miss Vokey died in Harbour Grace. Their 14 sons moved on. Two, my James Goodyear (m. Ardelina Pike) and ?John Goodyear moved north to Little Catalina. This is my line. The other 12 brothers moved north to windmill Bight and then to Cat Harbour (now Lumsden). Some married with the Gibbons family - 8 of the original 14 sons. The remaining 4 moved north to Musgrave Harbour. One, Thomas Jr., later moved to Ladle Cove and later Grand Falls. These are the Grand Falls Goodyears. The other 3 brothers later moved to Carmanville. 2 stayed and 1 other, Richard, left for Hall's Bay and settled in Goodyear's Cove. He had 1 son who died - end of this line of the family.
I got this information from a letter given to my grandfather Joseph Goodyear by Fred Goodyear of Musgrave Harbour, Nfld., dated August 14, 1978. Where did you get the information regarding James Goodyear's birthdate (1820) and birthplace (Bristol)?
My family records also indicate that Ardelina Pikes parents were William Pike and Eliza Ann McLean.
I hope to hear from you soon. David Goodyear
