Notes
a. Note:   Dear Donna, I think I may have some good news for you. I have a James Skirrow born about 1791 in England who came to Ontario in 1821 and for a time had a store at Hornby Ontario. He married Ann Howson in England. Their children were Ann, Mary James Leeeming, William Proctor and Margaret. There was a Proctor family at Hornby too. As a matter of fact Addie Proctor (Howson) is about 100 and still living at a nursing home in Goderich, Ontario. She married my gr gr uncle. There were several marriages between Howsons, Skirrows and Atkinsons, and in the same area of Halton County, near Hornby -which is south of Georgetown, they also married McKinnons, Hewitts I am directly descended from a sibling of Ann Howson. There is a truckload of information available and researched already on this whole bunch -during the 1800s here in Ontario. I'll have to look up Pilot Mount Manitoba. I had one of those odd things happen. Any time I check records Skirrow is always a name I check for and I had never run across it anywhere and was getting discouraged not knowing where they all moved away to. I was at Mount Pleasant Cemetery office in Toronto about my mother's grave, and in the adjoining plot here were Skirrows. But I digress. I am so happy to have your background and an idea where the middle name Proctor came from for William. There is a man in Toronto who has done a great deal of research on Skirrows: He goes back to James son of above James Leeming Skirrow and Sarah Ann Atkinson. J. Bruce Smith 79 Alpaca Dr. Scarborough MiJ 2Z9 (416) 431-7891 dolina@sprint.ca <mailto:dolina@sprint.ca> He was going to send me his file and I guess he just didn't get around to it. I have pages and pages on the Skirrows but it is not as complete as the one J. Bruce Smith has done. He has his family on one of those internet sites - possibly ancestry.com Are you excited yet? Anyway Donna, I would most pleased to share and compare. I'd love to be able to fill in where the Skirrows moved to and a although I don't really need a totally complete file, I'd love a sketlton one with some living contacts who do are descended from Ann and James Skirrow, and an idea what happened to the families. I think I know someone who has all the Proctor information too. Betty Brownridge writes family histories for the local newspaper and lives right where the Howsons and Skirrows settled almost 200 years ago. Betty was a Howson too. We have the exact location where the Howsons were from in England. Acturally J. Bruce Smith visited the site. Hope to hear back from you soon.
