Apparently John's first wife was born in England and died somewhere in Sussex, south of London before John emigrated west to the US and then Newfoundland?? this is odd since John and Emily had one child William Thomas in 1881 so she doesn't appear to have died in England

Beatrice Pear Bugden indicates that Mary Emily Pear was disabled as she broke her back and she died in Massachusetts. I wonder if John went to the US at some point after Henry's birth and then returned to Newfoundland again. He was listed in Newfoundland in 1885 and 1890 so I'm not sure when he would have gone to the US
