At Pittsburgh they got a flat boat and came down the Ohio River. Arriving at the French settlement they stopped to rest for a time. Liking Gallipolis, they stayed. Matthew made his living at cabinetmaking and house construction. He had an apprentice or two, and also trained his son Matthew to the bench.
