Ora's father George Hebard was a printer and editor of the Democratic Despatch, according to the Hibbard Genealogy. According to the History of Gallia County, G. D. Hebard took over the Gallipolis Dispatch from J. L. Waller sometime in the late 1850's or early 1860's. It lasted until 1868. George D. Hebard started another paper, The Locomotive, in 1871, changed the name to the Gallipolis Ledger, under which name his son James H. Hebard took it over. For many years George's brother-in-law John Quincy Walker was the typesetter.
