Note: N135 Bristol Herald, Bristol, VT. no date on newspaper clipping, but clearly published after May 16, 1917. "Mrs. Miranda C. PARMELEE Mrs. Miranda C. (BATES) PARMELEE, after having been an invalid for twelve years and confined to her bed for the past twenty-two months, passed to her reward May 14, 1917, aged 76 years, at her home one and one-half miles west of Bristol village, which she entered as a bride fifty-six years ago. She was born in the town of Westford, Vt., February 27,1847. [Note: this should be 1841, otherwise she would not have been 76 at death, the 1900 census would be wrong, and she would have been scandalously young at her marriage.] Her early life was spent in Irasburg, moving to Bristol in 1860. In 1861 she married Dorus S. PARMELEE, who she survived by twenty-five years. Six children were born to them, three of whom are now living to mourn her loss, Clayton H. of South Boston, Durward B. and Rosina H. who have always lived with her on the home farm. She also left three grandchildren, Marion T. PARMELEE of South Boston, Gertrude PARMELEE and Merritt ALLEN, who also live at the homestead, and one sister, Mrs. M.E, HUGHES of South Boston. The funeral services were held at her late home on Wednesday, May 16, at 1:30 o'clock. A large number of friends and relatives assembled to pay the last tribute of love and respect to the deceased. The floral offerings were many and beautiful and this seemed eminently fitting since Mrs. PARMELEE was a genuine lover of nature and during her lifetime always cultivated the flowers in and around her home, thus making it a cheery and happy place. Only those who knew her best could possibly realize her fondness for flowers. Rev. Thomas B. HUGHES, the present pastor of the First Baptist church, of which she was a member, read a most impressive Scripture lesson of selected passages entitled "The Righteous Dead." Rev. Ernest M. HOLMAN of Fairfield, Maine, a former pastor at Bristol spoke very simply and briefly from the text, Rev. 7:17. He offered a personal tribute to the deceased by these suggestions, namely: "The good friend and neighbor." "The good mother," and "The good Christian." In closing the address a favorite poem was given: Abide with me, fast falls the eventide......(full quote of this hymn followed) In the spring sunshine our sister, mother and friend was laid to rest with impressive committal services in the family lot in Greenwood cemetery. Those from out of town who attended the funeral were: G.H. PARMELEE, Phelps, N.Y.; C.H. PARMELEE, South Boston; Rev. E.M. HOLMAN, Fairfield, Maine; S.S. DRAKE and wife, Wooster, Carried BATES, Rutland; Fred Tomlinson and wife, Jericho; Brainerd LANE and wife and Floyd KEYS and wife, Middlebury; Mrs. Ernest EDDY and Mrs.EDDY, Starksboro; E. A. LEE, Vergennes, and Willard PARTCH and wife, Hinesburg."
